Arrest made in Cassidy Bernard case

Police have made an arrest in the case of a woman found dead in We’koqma’q last year.

A 20-year-old man from Wagmatcook, Dwight Austin Isadore, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend Cassidy Bernard, as well as two counts of abandoning a child.

The 22-year-old mother of infant twins was found dead in a We’koqma’q home in October of last year; her children were at the scene, dehydrated but unharmed.

Sergeant Glenn Bonvie, Acting Officer in Charge of the NS RCMP Major Crimes Unit, made the announcement in We’koqma’q Tuesday.

Bonvie said officers had been working on the case since Bernard was found.

“It’s a combination of all the work that was done from October 24 of last year, up until the point that Mr. Isadore was arrested,” he said. “I hope that the arrest and charges will be a step forward in the healing process for the family and the entire community.”

Bonvie says they know how important the case is.

Isadore appeared in Port Hawkesbury Court this morning, and he’ll remain in custody until his next court appearance on December 16.
