Hockey players have swept the last StFX athlete of the week awards for 2019.
Cole MacDonald, a defenseman for the X-Men, won the male award after he recorded seven points in two games; MacDonald had four assists in Wednesday’s 8-5 win against Dalhousie in Halifax, then scored a goal and added two assists in Friday’s 6-5 home loss to UPEI.
He was named the game’s second star.
Tyra Meropoulis, an X-Women forward, earned female honours after she scored five goals in a pair of weekend road wins; Meropoulis had two goals and was named player of the game in Friday’s 3-0 win in Moncton, then scored a hat-trick and added an assist in Sunday’s 5-2 against UPEI in Charlottetown.
She was also named player of the game in that win.
