Local sports preview (Friday)

The Battle of the Quad Counties resumes in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

The Strait Pirates host the Antigonish Bulldogs.

The Pirates (13-5-3), winners of three straight and four of their last five are tied with the Bulldogs (14-3-1), winners of five straight and six of their last seven, for top spot in the six-team Sid Rowe Division with 29 points, a point up on the third-place Miners.

Antigonish has won the first two games in the four-game season series between the long-time rivals.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7:30 p.m.

It’s the final game for both teams before the Christmas break.

 

The province’s two Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams are in action against Maritimes Division opponents.

The Cape Breton Eagles visit Pleasant Valley’s Jacob Hudson, Antigonish’s Jake and Sean Stewart and the Moncton Wildcats.

Moncton has won three of the first four games in the nine-game season series.

The Halifax Mooseheads host the Charlottetown Islanders at Scotiabank Centre.

It’s the second half of a home-and-home series after the teams played in PEI Wednesday night.

Both games get underway at 7 p.m.
