Preliminary inquiry date set for drug bust suspect

A suspect charged in relation to a drug bust in Port Hawkesbury has committed to stand trial.

RCMP say officers searched a home in the town in August.

They say they seized dexamphetamine, marijuana, marijuana plants, hashish and other evidence.

James Kenneth MacLean, 53, faces three charges in the case- two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and a single count of production.

His case opened in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court in September.

MacLean was expected for an election-and-plea hearing Monday; instead, he elected for a judge and jury trial- he will have a preliminary inquiry April 19.

MacLean was convicted of three break-and-enter-related charges and two breaches in 2013; he was sentenced to 12 months in custody and 15 months of probation.
