Business owner says closing highway was wrong call

A business owner nearby a closed section of highway leading to a dangerous intersection in Antigonish says there had to be a better solution.

Eastern Auto OK Tire Antigonish owner Garrett Sears says he didn’t expect NSTIR to close the section of Hwy 4; he expected a four way stop, or the elimination of left turns off the highway.

Sears tells The Hawk he’s concerned about his business, and the traffic being directed through the residential area on the South River Road.

“I know it’s a difficult situation for everybody,” he says “I think most people around here were saying it was going to take someone getting killed to have something done, but I don’t think this is the right solution.”

Sears says he’s talked with a few government reps who say it will reopen soon, but he says a year and a half isn’t soon.
