A StFX hockey player has received some national recognition.
Jamie Johnson, an X-Women goaltender, has been named the U Sports female athlete of the week; she had three wins, including two shutouts, during the week.
Johnson made 13 saves in a 6-0 home win against Mount Allison Jan. 21, then had 22 saves in Friday’s 2-0 home win against UPEI; she was named player of the game.
She recorded 31 saves and was named second star in Saturday’s 3-1 home win against Saint Mary’s, the number two team in the country; that win pushed the X-Women into a first-place tie with the Huskies in the AUS standings.
Johnson was named StFX female athlete of the week Monday; she received the AUS female of the week award Tuesday.
