Mayor says snow removal budget has been hit hard

Antigonish‘s mayor says the past month has taken a toll on their winter maintenance budget.

Laurie Boucher says town officials are projecting to be a bit over their snow removal budget at this point in the season.

After February’s regular town council meeting Tuesday night, Boucher said it’s been a rough six weeks.

“We’ve been tested for sure the last month or so,” she said. “We’ve had quite a bit of snow.”

Boucher said it’s not just snow they’re up against.

“With the rain coming on top of it, it makes the snowbanks turn to ice, and they’re harder to remove,” she said. “That has to be done through the night.”

Boucher said they’re projecting to be a little bit over their winter maintenance budget right now, but nothing substantial.
