Coady officials announce women’s leadership project

Officials with the Coady International Institute at StFX have announced a $10 million project in support of women’s leadership.

They say they’re leading a five-year project to strengthen gender equality and women’s leadership opportunities across the globe.

It’s called Engage! Women’s Empowerment and Active Citizenship; Sean Fraser, the MP for Central Nova, announced $10 million in federal funding for the project in Antigonish Wednesday.

Coady officials say they’ll work with their counterparts on the ground in communities in five countries- Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Haiti, India and Tanzania.

They say they want to strengthen individual and organizational capacity, and provide tools and opportunities for women to increase their empowerment; projects will focus on areas such as leadership development, social enterprise, climate adaptation, leadership and management education and future of work, all toward the goal of gender-equitable change.
