NSTIR has the final say on lane changes to Reeves Street.
Town staff made that clear after facing questions from councillors at Tuesday’s regular council meeting in Port Hawkesbury.
Some councillors wanted to know if the town could choose to revert the changes to the lane configuration of Reeves Street; the CAO responded, saying the road is owned by the province.
After, Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton said that makes it a provincial decision.
“At the end of the day, it’s a road that does belong to the province,” she said. “NSTIR will ultimately make the final decision with regard to that road design.”
Chisholm-Beaton said she thinks they’ll base the decision on function and safety, traffic, speed, and accidents, first but will also consider feedback from the town.
She said NSTIR will decide whether to keep the changes in the fall, after they’ve collected data for all four seasons.
