Main St. courthouse getting a facelift

Antigonish Co. municipal officials are making some repairs to their courthouse on Main St.

Councillors voted to issue a tender for the repairs at March’s regular municipal council meeting Monday night.

After, Hughie Stewart, the deputy warden of the municipality, said capital work includes new steps at the main entry, as well as new doors, windows and siding.

“The courthouse is now back in the county’s hands, always was, it was taken off the market- we are redoing the courthouse all over, but this is what they’re working on right now,” he said. “It’s going to take a little time to get it all done, because it is in use, and we get in there when we get a chance.”

Stewart said they don’t have a timeline for improvements.

He said they’re badly needed.

“There was a lot of work needed, like the siding, and the doors, and the step out front,” he said. “It has to be done- it’s going to beautiful when they finish.”

Stewart said the work is expected to cost roughly $250,000.

He said municipal officials will find out if their provincial counterparts are willing to help cover the bill.
