MacMaster says rotary replacement could improve traffic flow

A local MLA says he’s hopeful a replacement for the Port Hastings rotary will solve traffic issues in the area.

Allan MacMaster, the Tory MLA for Inverness, says the rotary doesn’t work well in the best conditions, and it becomes more of a problem when the Canso Causeway’s swing bridge is open.

MacMaster tells The Hawk he wants the rotary replaced with something better.

“I think this is an opportunity,” he says. “This would be a monumental change for that part of our highway system.”

MacMaster says it’s especially dangerous when emergency vehicles can’t get through because of traffic jams that happen when boats are going through the canal.

He says storage lanes could resolve a lot of the issues, and give emergency vehicles space to pass through when traffic is backed up.

MacMaster says he’s pleased the replacement work, scheduled for the summer of 2021, is happening so soon.
