A local emergency room is no longer operating as one due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a release Thursday, St. Anne’s Centre CEO Annette Fougere said the Arichat facility is no longer designated as an emergency department.
Fougere said they are now designated as an Urgent Care Centre, and will retain some ER responsibilities, but will no longer accept EHS cases, suicide or homicide threats, chest or abdominal pains, or respiratory complaints.
She said this is a temporary change while the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing.
