Province tightens protocols for temporary fishers and other workers

The province has made a change to self isolation protocols for fishers, offshore workers, and temporary out-of-province workers.

They’re ordered to self isolate for 14 days upon entering the province; fishers may isolate, and fish, on their vessel, but only if they can do so for 14 consecutive days.

At a press conference Thursday, Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Robert Strang said the first long weekend of the pandemic is coming up, but that doesn’t relax public safety rules at all.

Strang said people will continue to have to stay inside, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get tested.

“The healthcare system will be there for you if necessary, whether it’s COVID or some other health concern,” he said. “If you think you might have COVID don’t wait until Tuesday or Wednesday, ’til the Easter weekend is over.”

Strang announced the province has recorded its second COVID-19 death.

A woman in her 90s with underlying health conditions died at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

31 new cases were announced Thursday. There are now 373 province-wide; including 34 in the eastern zone.
