Inverness Co. musician known as “Spoon Man” back in court

A musician from Inverness Co. is expected back in court Thursday in his latest sexual assault case.

Police charged Gerry Deveau, 85, following a 2010 incident involving a 10-year-old girl in St. Joseph du Moine.

The Belle Cote man, known as the “Spoon Man”, was sentenced to 12 months of house arrest and 12 months of probation in March 2018; he was placed on the sex offender registry for a 10-year period.

Deveau was sentenced to six months behind bars for failing to travel to a scheduled appointment by the most direct route in April 2018.

RCMP charged him with another sexual assault count in relation to an incident in Margaree in 1996; the complainant in the case was 17 at the time.

Deveau is scheduled to stand trial in that case in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Thursday; it was adjourned in June and November. It had been scheduled for March but was delayed by COVID-19.

He has played numerous stages through the years, including close to 60 years at the Broad Cove Scottish Concert.
