StFX staff hold second Black Lives Matter march

There’s another Black Lives Matter march happening in Antigonish.

Faculty and staff from Saint Francis Xavier University are taking part in Scholar Strike Canada Wednesday.

Local organiser Corrine Cash tells The Hawk the countrywide strike’s creator called for action following major sport leagues’ boycotts to protest police brutality.

“The striking of the WNBA and NBA players, and so she called out for similar action from academics.”

Cash says StFX has a responsibility to be a leader in the community.

She says students and other community members will join with them to protest racism.

“We need to collectively come together and show that this was never okay, and it especially isn’t okay anymore.”

Cash says it starts at 1 p.m. on the steps of the Coady International Institute with speakers; followed by a march through campus.

As many as 5000 people attended a Black Lives Matter march in Antigonish earlier this summer.
