Resumption of StFX classes getting closer

We’re five days away from the return of classes at StFX.

The majority of students are already back in the area; all students from outside the Atlantic bubble required to self-isolate moved into residence in late August.

After September’s regular municipal council meeting Tuesday night, Owen McCarron, Antigonish Co.‘s warden, said things seem to be going well so far.

“Another week down, and another week to go for that first 14-day period- hopefully, we’ll get through that first phase, and when classes get going, then we’ll just see how things go,” he said. “(I) haven’t heard of anything- there (are) a few little flare-ups, but nothing major.”

Classes start Monday.

McCarron said police have been conducting random check-ins on students who are supposed to be in self-isolation.

“The university is really quite on top of it, and the RCMP are being very mindful, and watching very closely,” he said. “So far, we’re hearing it seems pretty good.”

McCarron said everyone is aware of the student recently fined for not self-isolating.

He said he hopes that sent an important message to everyone.
