No school due to Teddy

It’s a post-tropical storm day for students in the Quad Counties.

Officials with the Strait Regional Centre for Education have cancelled classes due to predicted deteriorating weather; support staff aren’t required to report to work.

Ecole Beau-Port in Arichat, Ecole acadienne de Pomquet and We’koqma’q First Nation school are also closed.

Classes have been cancelled within the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education.

Nova Scotia Power‘s outage map indicates there are outages across Inverness Co. and Richmond Co.; with more than 10,000 homes and business in the dark. Estimated restoration times are between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Roughly 4,000 homes and businesses in Richmond Co. are in the dark, with estimated restoration times between 6-7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The Canso Causeway has re-opened to all traffic; it was previously closed to high-sided vehicles Wednesday morning.

Teddy, which was downgraded to a post-tropical storm and made landfall in Sheet Harbour at roughly 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, is still expected to bring between 50-75 millimetres of rain to central and northern areas of the province and wind gusts of more than 100 km/k to our region.
