Parents of isolating StFX students set up bursary

StFX parents are setting up a bursary to thank the community for help given to isolating students.

Lisa Baker says her son Sam, a third year StFX student, moved in off-campus when he returned to Antigonish from Ontario this fall.

Baker tells The Hawk he relied on community support to get through his quarantine.

“My son’s in a house with some roommates, he’s not in residence, so he really depended on that support person, that was a volunteer, to get him groceries and to help him out for those two weeks he was in quarantine.”

Baker says that put her at ease.

She says she’s so grateful to the whole community, she had to so something.

“Made the whole experience so much better for everybody because, as you can imagine, we had a lot of fear, a lot of anxiety sending him there,” she says. “What the community did was so generous and heartwarming we just wanted to say thank you.”

Baker says their fundraising goal is $25,000, which would allow them give out an annual $1000 bursary to a student from the Antigonish area.”
