Provincial officials held a funding announcement in the Quad Counties Saturday.
Premier Iain Rankin says the province is investing $1.92 million into the second Gaelic College location.
Rankin says this money will transform the former St. Joseph’s Convent and Renewal Centre into a refreshed facility.
“We will be renovating the former convent to create a satellite campus of the college. It will be called Mabou Hill College.”
Gaelic College President Rodney MacDonald says the campus will offer multiple courses, including a foundation year program where students will receive credits through Cape Breton University.
MacDonald says the Mabou campus is the perfect fit for CBU.
“Cape Breton University recognized in their strategic plan areas around Cape Breton Island to showcase that they are (a) true Cape Breton wide university,” said MacDonald. “This fits that model extremely well.”
Course options will include Gaelic culture and history, an executive certificate in cultural organizations/event management, and an executive certificate in music and ethnomusicology.
Beinn Mhàbu will also be home to North America’s first Gaelic Medium School.
