Lionel Desmond’s uncle appeared on the final day of this session of testimony at the Desmond Fatality Inquiry in Port Hawkesbury.
Kenneth Greencorn says Desmond stayed with him, and his wife Sandra, at his home on Jan. 2, 2017, the night before Desmond killed his wife, mother, daughter, and then himself in their Upper Big Tracadie home.
Greencorn says Desmond always had a place with them and would occasionally stay when he was struggling.
“His aunt Sandra was one of his best aunts,” he says. “He looked at Sandra as his second mom, more or less, so that’s why he come stay with us.”
Greencorn says Desmond came over that night because he had taken a shower, and when he was finished his wife, Shana, and daughter, Aaliyah, had left the house.
Greencorn says it wasn’t unusual for him to come over, and that time was no different.
“In a day or so, a couple days, he’d go back home,” he says. “I never asked him, you know, what really went on.”
Greencorn says he saw no indication of the tragedy to come.
Testimony is set to resume the week of Apr. 19.
