Cheticamp nursing home to get long-awaited reno

A nursing home in Inverness Co. is in line for renovations.

Allan MacMaster, the MLA for Inverness, says he confirmed that in questions to Zach Churchill, the province’s health minister, March 26.

MacMaster tells The Hawk major changes are coming to Foyer Pere Fiset in Cheticamp.

“The expansion will mean that they’ll have greater privacy- they’ll have their own private rooms and their own bathrooms,” he says. “When you consider this is a place where people live, that privacy is very important.”

MacMaster says the oldest parts of the facility will be completely replaced.

He says it’s a step toward privacy and dignity.

“Rarely do people choose to go to a nursing home- often it’s because of their health and they need to go,” he says. “We need to have beds for them- I know in this case, while it’s not more beds coming to the facility, it’s going to greatly improve the quality of life for those who live there.”

MacMaster says he’s glad the expansion plan, which was finished in 2017, is finally set to move forward.
