A heat warning has been issued for much of Mainland Nova Scotia

Environment Canada and the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness have issued a heat warning for most of Mainland Nova Scotia.

Warnings are in effect for:

Annapolis County
Antigonish County
Colchester County – Truro and south
Halifax County – east of Porters Lake
Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Hants County
Kings County
Lunenburg County
Pictou County
Queens County

Inland areas, away from the coast, are expected reach heat alert levels for the next 2 days. Temperatures today may exceed 30 degrees, while humidex values will remain near 36 both days.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
