Antigonish Co. councillors approve funding for women’s leadership conference

Officials with another local municipality will fund seats for a women in politics leadership conference.

Antigonish Co. councillors approved funding for two seats at March’s regular municipal council meeting Monday night.

After, Hughie Stewart, the municipality’s deputy warden, said the conference is a great idea.

“I think that it’ll certainly maybe encourage some young women- or older women or whoever- to take a look at it with a little bit of help.”

Stewart said the goal of the seats- and the event in general- is to get more women involved in all levels of government.

He said they’re happy to help.

“When you get into politics, you’ve got to have a little bit of versing, and try to learn before you hit the trail,” he said. “I think it’s a good thing to have happen.”

Stewart said the idea is for the two municipally-funded seats to be filled by participants from Antigonish Co.
