Antigonish Co. councillors create bursary in name of late warden

Councillors in Antigonish Co. are planning to honour their former warden.

Owen McCarron, current warden, says Russell Boucher had a strong connection to education; they’re creating an annual $500 bursary in his name.

Boucher passed away in May.

McCarron says a county resident and student at East Antigonish Academy student pursuing post-secondary studies, who demonstrates dedication to academics, are some of the criteria provided by Boucher’s family.

McCarron tells The Hawk they feel it’s an important gesture.

“Obviously Russell was always a big champion of education and always wanted to see people make a difference.”

McCarron says the bursary will be a legacy to remember Boucher by.
