Reps with Nova Scotia Power have explained their response to Hurricane Dorian to municipal councillors in Antigonish Co.
NSP reps gave a presentation at November’s regular municipal council meeting Tuesday night.
They told councillors the September storm, which led to widespread power outages across the province, was three times more impactful than Hurricane Juan.
After, Owen McCarron, Antigonish Co.’s warden, said it was very useful information.
“When you look at a storm of this nature, they highlighted the process that they go through from an emergency planning perspective,” he said. “That gives us a better idea, so when we’re talking to our constituents, we can explain how some of the decisions are made.”
McCarron said NSP reps asked municipal officials if they could come present to councillors.
He said it’s critically important to build those lines of communication open, and they were pleased with what they heard.
“They kind of outlined the priority pieces that need to happen to get power restored, and how that works,” he said. “(They also indicated) that there’s going to be more line work done in and around the Antigonish area.
McCarron said they were also happy to hear utility reps recognize more tree removal is needed in the area in the near future.
