Antigonish Co. councillor taking leave of absence

A municipal councillor in Antigonish Co. has been granted a leave of absence.

Councillors approved a leave for District 8 representative Gary Mattie at Tuesday night’s regular municipal council meeting.

After the meeting Antigonish Co. Warden Owen McCarron said Mattie has been missing due to a health-related issue since June.

“As part of the municipal government act, there’s a requirement if a councilor misses three meetings in a row that we actually ask for a leave of absence- which we’ve done in this case.”

McCarron said Mattie is still keeping in touch with his municipal counterparts electronically.

He said he hopes to return by November’s meeting.
