Antigonish Mayor says Municipal Planning Strategy a step forward

Antigonish’s mayor says their new Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw will help the town move forward.

The bylaw passed second reading at the Town of Antigonish’s regular council meeting Monday.

Laurie Boucher tells The Hawk it’s an important step.

“It brings us into today, in a sense that we know what direction we want to see the town going in,” she says. “There will be things that come up over the next, probably, year or so that we’ll have to take a look at again, but for right now council is very pleased with how it went.”

Boucher says the municipal planning strategy and land use bylaw came out of community consultation which identified 3 key areas.

She says they’re focused on increasing diversity of housing in an effort to contribute to affordable housing, changing mixed use areas to encourage good development downtown, and working on mobility and active transportation.
