During Monday’s regular council meeting, Town of Antigonish staff addressed the situation in Ukraine.
Councillor Andrew Murray put forward a plan to use blue and yellow flowers this summer in a show of support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
Mayor Laurie Boucher says that is just one of the ways they can show their support and she adds that between the Town, County and STFX University, they will provide $25 thousand to the Red Cross.
“We just proposed it to council and people were very happy to make sure that we support the Red Cross and their endeavors in Ukraine.”
The donation will come as a three way split from the three organizations.
“Both the Town and County are donating $8,500 each and the University is donating $8,000 for a total of $25,00. So it’ll be a three way donation so it’ll equal $25,000 directly to the Red Cross.”
Boucher says having a good relationship with the University and the County are what make things like this possible.
