Antigonish Woman Facing Numerous Charges, Including Attempted Murder

Antigonish RCMP have arrested a 60 year old woman on a number of charges after assaulting a man and ramming multiple vehicles.

They say Raylene Dewan of Antigonish rammed her car into the parked truck of the victim on Cloverville Road.

Police say she then rammed a second vehicle as the victim attempted to leave the area.

They later learned that she had also assaulted an 82 year old family member of the victim prior to ramming the vehicles.

RCMP say responding officers located Dewan’s vehicle leaving the scene and attempted a traffic stop when she fled.

A short time later her vehicle became immobilized due to the damage to it.

Officers attempted to arrest Dewan but she refused to unlock her vehicle doors.

Officers then broke one of the vehicle’s windows and removed her from the vehicle.

Dewan continued to resist arrest but was safely arrested a short time later, police say.

Through continued investigation, officers determined Dewan may be under the influence of drugs and demanded that she provide a blood sample for analysis and she refused.

She is facing the following charges according to police:

  • Attempted Murder;
  • Assault with a Weapon;
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm (2 counts);
  • Uttering Threats to Property;
  • Resisting Arrest;
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance;
  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance;
  • Refusal of a Blood Demand;
  • Flight from Police;
  • Mischief over $5,000.

Dewan was remanded into custody and appeared in Antigonish Provincial Court on March 10, where she was released on strict conditions.

Dewan will return to court on April 6 at 9:30 a.m.
