Antigonish, Yarmouth receiving emergency management funding

The provincial government has announced $100,000 of funding to help manage local emergencies.

The Antigonish Regional Emergency Management Organization (REMO) is receiving $40,000 to ensure they can maintain uninterrupted capacity and resilience.

That announcement was made by Antigonish MLA Michelle Thompson.

“Strong emergency management means being prepared before a crisis happens,” said Thompson. “This investment from our government will help ensure Antigonish has the leadership, capacity and coordination needed to respond effectively when our communities need it most. I am proud to support investments that strengthen our communities and help keep Antigonish safe.”

Yarmouth REMO is receiving $60,000 in funding to hire a full-time emergency management coordinator, and to ensure the long-term sustainability of regional emergency coordination.

Yarmouth MLA Nick Hilton made the announcement for his jurisdiction today.

“Having dedicated emergency management leadership helps communities stay prepared and respond effectively when emergencies happen,” said Hilton in a press release. “This investment will strengthen Yarmouth’s regional capacity and ensure our REMO has strong leadership and long-term sustainability.”

According to the provincial government, this funding is a part of a broader announcement with 12 other organizations receiving funding through the REMO Capacity Grant Program.
