A woman from Victoria Co. says changes at a dangerous section of Hwy. 105 haven’t help address safety concerns in the area.
Jennifer Anderson says she’s witnessed many near misses and several collisions at the Irving-Tim Horton’s location in the community, which is across from her home, since she first came forward with her concerns in 2018.
Anderson tells The Hawk provincial transportation officials have added a left-turn lane since then, but it hasn’t really done much.
“You can see the nice, black marks on the brand-new pavement, you can hear the screeching tires (and) the car horns,” she says. “We have transfer trucks backed up onto the highway because they can’t get into the facility.”
Anderson says 70 people showed up for a public meeting on the issue in June 2018.
She says that section remains dangerous despite the changes aimed at addressing their concerns.
“Unfortunately, even though we spent a lot of money for a turn lane- taxpayers spent a lot of money for that- it hasn’t really done anything to alleviate the issues that were there, and the safety issues that were there.”
Anderson says her understanding is a traffic study was done, and it recommended a speed reduction, but nothing has been implemented to date.
She says she also believes the layout of the property creates a risk for motorists travelling through the area.
