Beach report for August 24th

It’s another damp day at many of our local beaches, with clouds and rain dominating the forecast from Inverness County to Antigonish and Cape Breton’s east coast.

In Port Hood, it’s cloudy with some light rain falling. The air temperature is sitting at 24°C, while the water is a pleasant 20°C. A light southeast breeze is moving through the area, but the ocean remains calm with no surf.

Over in Inverness, clouds and rain are also the story today. The air is a cooler 21°C, but the water is surprisingly warm at 23°C. A calm south wind is keeping conditions quiet, and there’s no surf reported.

At Point Michaud, the weather is considerably wetter, with an overcast sky and heavy rain. The air temperature is 20°C and the water is 17°C. A moderate onshore wind is creating some movement on the water, with 0.3 metres of surf, the highest wave activity among the beaches reporting today.

Meanwhile, Pomquet is seeing a mix of rain and cloud cover. The air temperature is 23°C, matching a very comfortable 24°C water temperature. A calm south wind is blowing, and the water remains flat with no surf.

And in Bayfield, cloudy skies and light drizzle are making for a grey day at the shore. The air is 23°C, the water is 22°C, and a calm east wind is keeping things quiet. Like most beaches today, there’s no surf to speak of.

Overall, it may not be the sunniest beach day, but water temperatures remain quite comfortable across the region. If you’re heading out, don’t forget the rain gear, especially for Point Michaud, where conditions are the wettest and windiest of the bunch.
