Black Lives Matter march being held in Antigonish

A Black Lives Matter event is taking place in the Quad Counties Saturday night.

Organizers say the Antigonish march, which will be peaceful, starts at Columbus Field at 7 p.m.

They say participants will start by taking a knee for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the length of time an ex-Minneapolis police officer kneeled on George Floyd’s neck May 25; the unarmed black man died during the arrest.

Organizers say they’ll march from Main St. to West St., to St. Ninian St. and Church St., then return to Columbus Field.

They say masks are required and physical distancing must be upheld throughout the event.

Marches, protests and rallies have taken place across the continent since Floyd was killed.
