Close to a million dollars is being pumped into the Canso area.
Officials with the federal government have announced a repayable contribution of $900,000 for Canso Seafoods Ltd., a branch of Louisbourg Seafoods Ltd.
The funding, which comes from ACOA’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program, is for facility upgrades and new equipment, including a new extension building to the existing manufacturing plant and the addition of a custom-made steam cooker and high-efficiency freezer.
Mike Kelloway, the MP for Cape Breton-Canso, says the upgrades will help company reps maintain a competitive edge in local and international markets for lobster and snow crab.
