Case of teen charged in Antigonish pepper spray attack expected to open in court

A suspect charged in relation to a pepper spray attack in Antigonish is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the case Wednesday.

RCMP say the incident, which started as a verbal argument, escalated to a physical assault on Notre Dame Ave. in March.

They say three young men pepper sprayed two other young men, who were taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say three teens were arrested and released from custody on strict conditions.

A 16-year-old boy from Nyanza, who faces two counts of assault causing bodily harm, is expected for an election-and-plea hearing in Antigonish Youth Court.

Police didn’t proceed with charges against a 17-year-old from Baddeck and an 18-year-old from St. Joseph du Moine.
