Chamber rep says shop local this Cyber Monday

The Acting Executive Director of the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce says, with mounting COVID-19 cases, Halifax isn’t the place to go for your Christmas shopping.

Susan Fox says going online for Cyber Monday isn’t the answer either.

Fox tells The Hawk the pandemic is pushing even more shoppers to the biggest online shopping day of the year.

“When you go online to shop it’s not those brick-and-mortar stores that are here, that are keeping the economy going here.”

Fox says you can look for what you need right in your back yard.

She says buying local keeps your money here.

“When you shop locally you support the whole community,” she says. “‘Shop local, save local,’ means more than just you saving; it means that you save the economy.”

Fox says local businesses have spent a lot of money to help you shop safely during the pandemic, shopping local has a relatively low COVID-19 risk, and many businesses will work with you to help get the perfect gift.
