Churchill talks healthcare during Port Hawkesbury visit

Nova Scotia’s opposition leader is in Port Hawkesbury.

The Liberals’ Zach Churchill is touring the area and meeting with seniors and Legion members.

Churchill says there’s been a lack of access to the emergency department at Strait Regional Hospital.

“They want to see improvement on things that matter in our healthcare system, like access and attachment to family doctors, and making sure that there will be ambulances and an emergency department that will look after them in their moment of need,” said Churchill.

He also said Legion members are pushing for priority access for long-term care beds for veterans.

Churchill says the Liberals support that idea.

“We do have long-term care beds in N.S. that used to be operated by Veterans Canada, but now they’re operated by the province. We hear from many veterans that are applying, but the beds are occupied.”
