Close calls at Antigonish crosswalks

Local Police have been receiving complaints about crosswalks.

Antigonish RCMP say there has been a few close calls between vehicles and pedestrians.

RCMP Constable Morgan MacPherson tells The Hawk some crosswalks in Antigonish are not as visible as they once were.

“The paint this time of year is wearing off” he said. “We learned from the town that the type of paint that was used is not quite as durable as the paint that was being used years prior (and) crosswalks aren’t as visible.

MacPherson says they received calls from pedestrians about the Acadia Street and library crosswalks.

MacPherson says flags could help make the crosswalks safer.

“I know different areas of the town they have put the flags in place and that might be something we have to look at in those two particular crosswalks as well.”

MacPherson says pedestrians have to make sure the drivers see them.

He says some crosswalks are not lit well within the town of Antigonish.
