Conservative candidate says municipal experience will help him in federal bid

A longtime municipal politician is stepping into the ring for the upcoming federal election.

Roger MacKay, the mayor of the Town of Westville, was nominated as the Conservative candidate for Central Nova in May.

MacKay tells The Hawk he sought the nomination because he wants to make the area better for young people.

“I wanted to ensure our young people have the opportunity to live, and work, and, possibly, someday, raise their family right here in Central Nova.”

MacKay says he has almost 25 years of experience in municipal government.

He says that means he understands the needs of his community and other rural areas of the country.

“I know and understand the needs of our community, and the challenges rural communities face when it comes to infrastructure, government red tape and the struggling local economy.”

MacKay says he’s still building his campaign team, but it won’t be long before he starts knocking on doors in the lead-up to October’s election.
