Could one of these be the next big one? 2026 hurricane names revealed

The Atlantic Hurricane Season starts on June 1st and ends after November 30th. You can check the status of storms with the Environment Canada Hurricane Centre.

Every year, a list of names for the tropical storms and hurricanes are pre-selected to help meteorologists, media, emergency managers, and the public communicate clearly about which storm is being tracked.

Storm names are reused every 6 years on a rotating list except when a hurricane causes significant loss of life or damage, then the name is retired. For example, Hurricane Katrina & Hurricane Dorian are both retired. A powerful storm name could be used again if it’s impact was not as serious.

Below is the list for 2026 – hopefully, we won’t need many of them!
