Council issues “Shop Local” proclamation

A Quad Counties municipality is asking you to shop local, if you can.

At Richmond Co.’s December regular council meeting Monday night, councillors issued a “Shop Local” proclamation declaring Dec. 21-24 days to buy from local business.

Afterward, Warden Amanda Mombouquette said small businesses still need our support.

“It was, again, a no brainer for us to be able to pass that kind of a proclamation,” she said. “But it’s not just to shop local during Christmas, it’s to shop local all the time, whenever you can to support local business owners, because they’re the people who support us.”

With the province’s COVID-19 vaccination program months away from completion, Public Health restrictions will likely stay in place for some time longer.

Mombouquette said local business owners need our support now.

“It’s a really tough time for businesses right now, and so much of our economy depends on visitors from afar, and so it’s in all of our best interest to continue to support local,” she said. “There’s no question, every dollar that you spend in your local community makes such an incredible impact.”

She said shopping at a local business will make sure it is still there when the pandemic is over.
