Council sworn in, CAO bows out

The Town of Mulgrave’s new council has been sworn in, just as the CAO announces she’s stepping down.

Two new councillors, two incumbent councillors, and the new mayor, former Councillor Ron Chisholm, took their oaths at November’s regular council meeting Monday night.

Afterward, Chisholm said the meeting was bittersweet, with excitement about what the two new councillors bring to the table, and CAO Darlene Berthier Sampson giving an update on the search to replace herself.

“I can guarantee it’s going to hurt us. Darlene has been a tremendous asset to the town. She has gone above and beyond,” he said. “Anything we asked of her she’s done it, and for us to replace her, it’s going to be very, very hard.”

Berthier Sampson is not renewing her contract.

Chisholm said Berthier Sampson’s term ends in January, but she has agreed to stay on until they find a suitable successor.
