A municipal councillor in Inverness Co. says a local tree nursery needs to have a local voice in the mix.
Jim Mustard says he wasn’t surprised when he found a report on the Strathlorne Forest Nursery was shelved by officials with the provincial government.
Mustard tells The Hawk he wants a committee made up of local experts to work with provincial officials on the site.
“If we had a local group that could, more or less, work to vet those opportunities, we could make a better opportunity for the province to understand that this is something that was thought through and had local buy in,” he says. “Let’s set up something local that has players from around the region that may have an interest in being involved in that, but also would have some expertise to help advise.”
Mustard says members of that group could make sure provincial officials are moving in the right direction when it comes to the development of the facility.
He says the facility is important for the area, and isn’t being utilized to its full potential.
