Councillors approve inter-municipal agreements

Town officials in Antigonish have voted in favour of a pair of memorandums of understanding.

One MOU is an inter-municipal agreement regarding household hazardous waste with their Antigonish Co. counterparts.

After September’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Laurie Boucher, the mayor of Antigonish, said residents will now have a year-round drop-off option for hazardous material.

“It will be in the county, but the town’s looking at a way to still have certain days that we can gather some of the household hazardous waste in town and bring it out to the county.”

Boucher said the second MOU involves shared IT services with their counterparts in eight neighbouring municipalities.

She said the three-phase project would make sure their computer systems and communication are safe.
