The warden of Inverness Co. says municipal officials do not accept their MLA’s remarks on a local housing project.
During October’s regular municipal council meeting Thursday afternoon, councillors took time to express their disagreement with comments made by Allan MacMaster, the MLA for Inverness.
MacMaster previously said a lack of clear answers from municipal officials caused the proponent of an 80-unit development to pull out of Inverness.
After the meeting, Betty Ann MacQuarrie, Inverness Co.’s warden, told The Hawk staff members met with- and provided information to- project reps several times.
“Maybe not in tied down figures, but they met several times with representatives of the developer and discussed the costs,” she said. “They are planning to build housing, which is great- I think it’s still going to happen in an area that’s not serviced by water and sewer.”
MacQuarrie said it would be a major cost to connect the area, and they need to think about other people on their water systems too.
She said it’s not over yet.
“I don’t think that it’s totally been squashed,” she said. “We’re certainly working diligently towards helping to make it happen.”
Councillors said they want to speak to MacMaster to clarify the situation with him, and show him the work they’ve done to remedy their admittedly significant infrastructure deficit before members of the new council are sworn in.
They voted to send MacMaster a letter to insist he meet them before municipal elections Oct. 17.
