UPDATE: Woman killed by pet pit bull

RCMP say a woman is dead after she was attacked by her pet pit bull.

Police say the pit bull was found dead a short time later.

They say the Middle Musquodoboit woman was walking the animal when it attacked her.

RCMP say they responded to a report of a possible deceased woman in Middle Musquodoboit around 8 a.m Tuesday.

They say the dog was nearby, but ran when police arrived.

Police issued a warning on Twitter just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.

They said a tan and brown pit bull, which was considered dangerous, was on the loose in Middle Musquodoboit, and people in the area were told to stay indoors and call 911 if they saw the animal.

Another tweet, sent 15 minutes later, indicated the dog was involved in a fatal attack.

Police say they were notified the dog was struck by a motorist near Hwy. 224 around 9:30 a.m., and it was confirmed deceased.
