Local political engagement high in Richmond Co.

The warden of the Municipality of the County Richmond says he’s pleased by the full slate of candidates in the upcoming municipal election.

There is a race in all five of the municipality’s districts.

After September’s regular council meeting Monday, Brian Marchand told The Hawk it’s a good thing.

“There’s a lot more interest,” he says. “For people, I guess, to run and make themselves available.”

Marchand said with a full ballot, people will be getting plenty of reminders to get out and vote.

However, he said the pandemic means they can’t take anything for granted.

“I mean with COVID going on, who knows,” he says. “Voter turnout has been normally pretty good in Richmond Co., so I suspect it still will be.”

Residents go to the polls on Oct. 17.
