Update: Crews return to scene of Frankville forest fire

Members of multiple volunteer fire departments have returned to the scene of a forest fire in Antigonish Co.

The fire on the Old Mulgrave Rd. near Frankville was reported at 2 p.m. Monday.

Volunteer firefighters from six local departments all responded; members of a ground crew from the province’s Department of Lands and Forestry and a department helicopter were also at the scene.

They left Monday night; they returned at first light Tuesday.

The fire had grown to roughly 200 hectares in size as of 9 p.m. Monday; a tweet from the Department of Lands and Forestry says it is considered out of control, but no identified structures are considered at risk at this time.

Officials with Environment Canada have issued a special air quality statement; it indicates smoke from the fire is causing reduced visibility and air quality in the surrounding areas.
