The first pharmacy based COVID-19 vaccinations are happening Wednesday, right here in the Quad Counties.
Port Hawkesbury Shoppers Drug Mart Associate Owner Colleen O’Connor gave the first shot this morning.
It is part of the latest phase of the province’s vaccine delivery plan.
15 pharmacies across the province are set to begin vaccinations in the coming weeks.
Shoppers Drug Mart President Jeff Leger says expanded community pharmacy vaccinations could serve three million people a week across the country.
“Pharmacists are among the most trusted healthcare professionals, providing convenient and accessible community-level health services,” he says. “We commend the Nova Scotia government for allowing pharmacists to join the immunization campaign in the province.”
Loblaw’s officials say the pharmacies will be providing the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to people 80 and older, and a few will also be giving out the AstraZenica vaccine to 63- and 64-year-olds.
