Forecaster says mild fall could lead to mild winter

It was a very mild fall in the Quad Counties.

Sunday was the last full day of the season.

Dave Phillips, the senior climatologist at Environment Canada, tells The Hawk it was a beauty.

“There (are) no better falls than in Atlantic Canada, the Maritimes- and boy, this year, I think it was golden,” he says. “It wasn’t the warmest on record, but consistently mild.”

Phillips says precipitation was down.

He says we had roughly 75 per cent of what we’d get during a typical fall.

Winter officially arrived at 6:02 a.m. Monday.

Phillips says, like fall, it’s expected to be warmer than usual.

“Milder than normal seems to be what are the models seem to suggest,” he says. “Not everyday, my gosh, that would be too much- we’d never cancel winter in Canada, we are a winter country.”

Phillips says his models indicate we could have near-normal or more precipitation than usual.

He says the season doesn’t look too bad if you’re not a fan of winter.
